How to use the Google Cloud Storage option

Back up to a Google Cloud Storage bucket

Follow these steps to back up to a Google Cloud Storage bucket with a preferred storage class and location.

If you already have your bucket set up, go to step 5.

1. Install and activate UpdraftPlus

If you haven’t already, purchase, install and activate UpdraftPlus Premium.

Go to Google Cloud console and sign in.

Click the Create a storage bucket button.

Select 'Create a storage bucket' button in the Google Cloud dashboard
  • Enter your bucket name.
  • Scroll down and click Create.
In the 'Create a Bucket' page enter your bucket name in the 'Name your bucket section' then select 'Continue' button

5. Confirm public access prevention

Click the confirm button.

When the 'Public access will be prevented' dialogue pops up, select 'Confirm'
  • Go back to your website.
  • Click Google Cloud Storage on the UpdraftPlus >> Settings tab.
Choose and select 'Google Cloud' in the 'Choose your remote storage' section

Scroll down, enter your bucket name and click Save Changes

In the 'Google Cloud' tab, enter the bucket name in the section 'Google Cloud Bucket'

Click Sign in with Google to start the authentication process.

In the 'Remote storage authentication' dialogue select the 'Sign in with Google' button to connect your Google cloud account

Choose your Google account from the list.

Click Continue.

Click Complete setup.

To complete Google cloud setup click the 'Complete setup' button which will redirect you back to UpdraftPlus settings page

Click Backup Now on the UpdraftPlus >> Backup / Restore tab.

  • Check the options for Send this backup to remote storage and Google Cloud.
  • Click Backup Now.
Select 'Google Cloud' in a 'Perform a backup' dialogue to take a new backup

Your backup is now secured on Google Cloud Storage and is accessible from UpdraftPlus >> Backup / Restore >> Existing backups.
