How to Connect MEGA’s Storage to UpdraftPlus

UpdraftPlus allows WordPress users to back up their sites to various remote storage options, including S3-compatible services like MEGA’s S4. This guide walks you through setting up MEGA’s S4 as your backup destination in UpdraftPlus.

Before getting started, ensure you have the following:

  1. An active MEGA S4 storage account
  2. Access credentials:
    • Access Key
    • Secret Key
    • S3 End-point URL
    • Bucket Name
  1. Log into your MEGA account
  2. Go to Object storage
  3. Create a new bucket and give it a name
  4. Under Object storage select Keys
  5. Create a new key and give it a name

Log in to WordPress & Open UpdraftPlus Settings

Navigate to:

UpdraftPlus→ Settings tab.

Choose S3-Compatible Storage in UpdraftPlus

  1. Scroll to Choose your remote storage.
  2. Check the box for S3-Compatible (Generic).
  3. Enter your MEGA S4 credentials:
    • S3 access key: Your MEGA S4 Access Key (Object storage → Keys)
    • S3 secret key: Your MEGA S4 Secret Access Key (Object storage → Keys)
    • S3 location: Name of your bucket
    • S3 end-point: The end-point from your bucket settings (use prefix s3, e.g., s3.eu-central-1.s4.mega.io) (Object storage → Settings → Endpoints)
  4. Test the connection.
  5. Save your settings.
  1. Go to the Backup/Restore tab.
  2. Click Backup Now.
  3. After backup, confirm files are uploaded to your MEGA S4 bucket.
